AmSU held a festive cooking class in honor of the coming Chinese New Year

News and events

In 2021, Chinese New Year festival falls on February12. Usually our Chinese students celebrate Spring Festival at home with family, chatting, drinking, cooking, and enjoying a hearty meal together. However, the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection has made adjustments to their tradition. Some AmSU students from China celebrate an important holiday far from home for the second time. In 2020, 17 Chinese students of AmSU decided to stay in Blagoveshchensk a little longer and did not have time to leave Russia because of closed borders.

To brighten up the holiday for foreign students, AmSU decided to organize a cooking workshop for them. Small groups of Chinese and Russian students joined together to prepare New Year's dishes traditional for their countries - «Olivier» salad and the «jiaozi» dumplings. «Heihe» salad was chosen as an additional dish.

In the common "kitchen", organized for the event in the cafe "Kopernik", students together prepared a pre-holiday table.

The most interesting thing was waiting for the students during the preparation of dumplings. The participants of the master class were provided with already prepared components for «jiaozi». But Chinese students decided to improve the taste of meat filling, they added secret ingredients to it so that the dish turned out just like at home. Also, students from China taught Russian students the art of shape dumplings.
