News and events

The second stage of the International TUREN Olympiad has taken place in Heihe.

The international component of TUREN spanned two days of activities at Heihe University and in the Oroqen ethnic village. The academic portion, known as the Northern Conference, was held at the International Faculty of Heihe University, featuring reports on the traditions and cultures of various Northern peoples.

"There were a great many fascinating reports — on Even, Nanai, and Evenki subjects," says Olga Morozova, Head of the Amur Regional Branch of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia and Head of the Foreign Languages Department at Amur State University. "The speakers were participants fr om Russia, while at Heihe University they are only just beginning to touch upon this topic. We, on the other hand, have been studying the Evenks for a long time across various departments. Our Chinese colleagues listened to us very attentively."

Russian participants of TUREN presented their Chinese partners with symbols of the international Olympiad, which will be displayed in the museum of the university's international faculty. The Olympians then visited the Oroqen village, wh ere they toured the local park and the museum of Oroqen culture.

"First and foremost, the TUREN Olympiad is our Tungus bridge between our countries," Olga Morozova notes. "The very location of Blagoveshchensk and Heihe offers immense opportunities for cultural exchange and for building connections between the indigenous Northern peoples of Russia and China. We are building the Tungus world, creating a platform for communication and interaction among the indigenous inhabitants of these lands."

In total, 110 participants from all represented regions — the Amur Oblast, Yakutia, Khabarovsk Krai, Primorye, Saint Petersburg, Buryatia, and Zabaykalye — took part in the Chinese leg of the TUREN Olympiad.
