The International Indigenous Minorities School (IIMS) is held for the ninth time this winter. As always, it is focused on studying the culture of languages of the cross-border Tunguska world of Russia and China. The school is aimed at those who are interested in border studies, international relations, languages and cultures of the minority ethnic groups and the Asian North-Eastern region as a whole.
Eighteen students will attend classes at the IIMS at the Amur State University. The participants are all Chinese students from provinces of Jilin, Guangxi, Anhui, Guangdong, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Shanxi, Hunan, Shandong, Fujian, and the capital of the country - Beijing. In China, the AmSU project is known as an online orientation camp called “Comparative Study on the Cultures of the International Indigenous Cross-border Peoples Oroqen/Evenki”.
During the online orientation camp, the students will discuss research-related issues, attend lectures, do their homework and present their slides on the topics of languages and cultures of the indigenous minorities of the Amur river region.
This winter the young people of China are discussing linguistics, literature, culture, economic development of the Northern territories, philosophy, religion and interethnic communication - that is how they describe the everyday life of indigenous minorities in China. “The final task in the online orientation camp will be to write a scientific article on a chosen topic; and, if the article receives positive reviews from the board of advisors, it will be sent for publication in highly rated scientific journals in China”, said Olga Morozova, Doctor of Philology, one of the project mentors.
